Raising Healthy Children in Challenging Times

9/6/2015

I read on facebook the other day about a baby - 8 months old I believe, who had lung cancer.  That struck me as so wrong.  What kind of an environment do we live in where infants getting cancer is not incredibly rare?  When I was raising my children a couple decades ago, I was careful not to give them too much sugar or foods that they might be sensitive to.  That was where my awareness was at the time.  These days there is so much more to be aware of in order to raise healthy children.  In these times, health is not a given.  We have GMO and pesticide laden foods which are commonplace (and yes, these have been proven in studies to cause cancer), we have a pharmaceutical industry which places profits over health, we have widespread fracking near residential neighborhoods and schools, and we have the insidious toxin of electromagnetic radiation which is not only outside our homes in cellphone towers (increasingly placed in school yards) but inside our homes in the form of multiple wireless devices that children are not only allowed to play with but encouraged to do so.
I am glad I am not personally raising children today, and I am concerned about not only my own grandchildren but the children and grandchildren of all of us.  I know it's not easy to raise children, hold down one or more jobs, deal with the finickiness and difference--consciousness of kids, and keep them healthy until they're old enough to do it for themselves.  A definite challenge!
Here are a few suggestions if I may.  Begin eating organic food before pregnancy if possible.  Take particular care to feed your child organic baby food and if you use it, formula .  The longer you are able to keep your child on non-GMO organic food, the better chance they have to develop healthy bodies and immune systems.  Live in as non-polluted an area as possible.  Nothing is perfect, but what we're striving for here is to get the best environment possible, internally and externally.  Use pharmaceuticals very sparingly with your children, if at all.  Learn methods of alternative healing before you need them, or have a list of resources available.
If you have wifi in your home, and most of us do, make sure your devices are protected.  There are several companies that make.  I feel the best is GIA Wellness who makes protective chips or guards for cell phones, computers, wifi routers, cordless phones, etc.  They have a special technology that disables the interruption these devices have on our bodies.  Even with protection, I recommend putting phones on speaker and holding them away from the head.  I also recommend not wearing cell phones on the body.  Developing breasts are very sensitive to electromagnetic radiation so don't let your teens tuck them in their bras, and likewise don't let boys keep them in their pants pockets. Studies are available showing the harmful effects of EMFs on the body, especially the bodies of children and teens.
Kids spend long hours every week at school, and many of these same issues exist in schools also.  If you feel too overwhelmed to investigate the state of your child's school, team up with other concerned parents and each do a little.  Most schools these days have school-wide wifi which adversely affects kids in many ways, including headaches, difficulty focusing, and anxiety.  Some schools also have cell phone towers in or very near the school grounds.  In addition schools also spray for insects using toxic pesticides, install new carpets or flooring using toxic chemicals, and school lunches can include GMOs and pesticide laden foods.  Children may be more or less sensitive to these things, but continued exposure increases the sensitivity level.  Many schools are becoming more aware of these things but if your child's school is not, do whatever you can to raise awareness.  And as I said earlier, getting together with a group of like-minded parents can do wonders.
These are challenging times that require increased awareness, and it can be done.  The benefit is children that are healthier than the average, who can pass the torch to the next generation.
I would love to hear what challenges you experience in this area, what solutions you have found, and your thoughts in general on this topic.
Many blessings.

De-stress in Nature

In today's busy world so many of us are suffering from stress related health issues. We run from car to office to store and we feel like we have no time for ourselves and we get run down. It is so easy for us to go days, weeks or even months without spending anymore time outside than what it takes to get from the door to the car and into the next door. All the while, waiting for us at our local parks, green spaces and hiking trails is a powerful stress reduction tool : Nature.
Now that spring is here (or nearly here) it is a perfect time to get out and experience the healing power of nature. Eat your lunch outside, go for a walk in the park, or just sit for a while in your favorite outside space. If spring hasn't quite gotten to where you are yet, have some indoor nature time with your house plants or start some seeds for the garden.

My experience of The Journey

4/12/2012

I thought I'd talk a little bit about The Journey, and what it's meant in my life.  By the time I had encountered The Journey, I had an existing energy healing and herbal medicine practice for quite a few years.  I had been on my own healing path for even longer.  I thought I had done a significant amount of "work on myself".  And then I hit menopause.  For two years my emotions were out of control.  I found myself crying or being depressed almost every day.  It began suddenly, and just as suddenly it stopped two years later.  It was then that I encountered The Journey.  Three friends had told me about this healing work, and that it dealt with emotions.  I saw myself on a fork in the road.  One fork went towards being a vital, healthy, empowered older woman.  The other fork went towards being a scared, frail, depressed old lady.  I took the first fork, and went to a Journey Intensive.

What I learned through this work was profound.  I learned for the first time how to work with my emotions.  How to walk towards them, open into them, feel them fully, and drop through them into openness.  I learned how to work with old memories of hurts.  Some of these I consciously remembered.  Some came up in the course of a process.  I learned how to express my feelings and let them go.  I learned how to forgive people who had wronged me, not because I was such a great forgiving person, but because it was no longer worth it to me to hold on.  And believe me, I could hold on.  And as I released the old emotions, and dropped the stories that had defined my life and how I saw myself, I found myself becoming freer.  I found a lightness begin to arise in my being.  I found myself more willing to step outside my comfort zone and do things I had never been able to do before.   And I stopped having the migraines that I had been having 3 times a week for years.  My energy improved.  This didn't all happen overnight.  I went through the Journey practitioners program, and did many Journeys in the course of that year.  And I kept doing them.  It's a transformational tool.  I have met people who have healed from cancer, chronic fatigue, chronic depression, and much, much more doing this work.

I now offer this work to others.  I can't promise you that one Journey process will cure all of your ills.  But if you make a commitment to healing, and to doing this work over time, I believe you will see dramatic change.  In late summer or early fall of this year, I will be facilitating a Journey Intensive in Crestone, Colorado.  This will be taught by Brandon Bays via live streamed TV,  and hosted by myself.  This is an excellent way to learn this work.  The weekend will include two Journey processes and the information you will need to be able to do Journey swaps with other participants afterwards.  Let me know if you are interested and I will contact you when actual dates are available.
Blessings!

The Path of the Sensitive Warrior, Part 1 - Thriving in Today's World (see workshops)

The word sensitive is controversial.  In the process of coming up with a name for this workshop, many people told me that they had negative images for the word.  One very sensitive friend told me that in the world of business, the word sensitive implied someone who wasn't up to the task, someone who was weak, shy, or timid and who didn't have what it takes to move forward or to be strong.  Another (sensitive) friend said the word had been used against her as a child and she did not like to use it to describe herself now.

Thinking I should use another word to describe this workshop, I poured through a thesaurus looking for a word that was more socially acceptable.  I could not find anything that conveyed what I wanted to say.  And the truth is that I DO want to use the word sensitive.  I do want to address all that the word implies.  I want to address the negative perception that our culture has of those who are more sensitive - because the truth is that sensitivity IS a beautiful gift, and this workshop will teach you how to recognize, care for and embrace that gift!

What is sensitivity?

Now that I am presenting workshops on sensitivity, people have asked me what exactly do I mean by that?  "How do I know if I am a sensitive, and how could this workshop benefit me anyway?"  "Being a sensitive" is somewhat of a misnomer.  All human beings are sensitive.  We all are tuned to pick up information from and about our environment with not only our physical senses but our psychic senses as well.  That's how we survived in primitive times. Is an enemy coming?  Are there dangerous animals around?  Is there a flood, or a fire coming?  We were tuned in then.  And now - it's just less common to acknowledge that now, or to accept it, or to even be aware of it.  According to my Native American teachers, the average person is picking up psychic information 65% of the time.  So if you are running on psychic information more than that, you are above average in sensitivity.

What does it mean to be above average in sensitivity?  It may mean you pick up others' emotions, thoughts, or physical pain.  Have you ever been sitting next to someone who was angry, or depressed, or in the throes of grief, and felt that emotion also?  And if their emotion was not visible, you might have thought it was your own.  "Why am I feeling depressed, or irritated or sad?"  My childhood was like that.  I felt everyone's emotions as if they were my own, and believed they were my own until well into my adulthood.  It made it very difficult to function.

Some people pick up others' thoughts, or physical pain.  You may hear things that others do not. It's not that uncommon. People who are on the high end of the sensitivity scale have a very difficult time being around others.  It's hard to get a sense of oneself, or one's boundaries when one is constantly being bombarded by other people's energies, emotions, or thoughts.  People who are less sensitive often don't understand this.  "Why is this person being such a wuss?"  This is where the "buck up, suck it up, grow a thicker skin" comes in.  People who are on the high end of this scale know they're sensitive.  They may not know why, or what to do about it, but they've felt it all their lives.  People who are above average but not on the high end of the scale may not identify with being sensitive.  They keep trying to function "normally".  They have come up with ways to "shield" themselves, whether with addictions, excess weight, "static"(surrounding themselves with a layer of confusion), being very talkative or hyper, you name it.  They have found ways to make themselves "functional" in the world and it works for them.  It may not work in a healthy way, but it works.  The sacrifice may be in health, clarity, or peace of mind.

What I'm offering in these workshops is a way to work with your sensitivity, tools to clear energies that aren't yours, and to keep yourselves clear - in a healthy, functional way that promotes clarity.  And tools that provide a filter so you can live in the world without being overwhelmed.   I'm offering a day to come and be who you are without pretense.  I'm offering a day to be around others who may have similar experiences.  I'm offering a day to learn about your own gifts and how to step into them. I have spent the last 15 years learning these tools from many sources and coming to an acceptance and understanding of why they are necessary and beneficial.

Sensitivity IS a gift.  But only when one learns to use it and not be overwhelmed by it.
