I read on facebook the other day about a baby - 8 months old I believe, who had lung cancer. That struck me as so wrong. What kind of an environment do we live in where infants getting cancer is not incredibly rare? When I was raising my children a couple decades ago, I was careful not to give them too much sugar or foods that they might be sensitive to. That was where my awareness was at the time. These days there is so much more to be aware of in order to raise healthy children. In these times, health is not a given. We have GMO and pesticide laden foods which are commonplace (and yes, these have been proven in studies to cause cancer), we have a pharmaceutical industry which places profits over health, we have widespread fracking near residential neighborhoods and schools, and we have the insidious toxin of electromagnetic radiation which is not only outside our homes in cellphone towers (increasingly placed in school yards) but inside our homes in the form of multiple wireless devices that children are not only allowed to play with but encouraged to do so.
I am glad I am not personally raising children today, and I am concerned about not only my own grandchildren but the children and grandchildren of all of us. I know it's not easy to raise children, hold down one or more jobs, deal with the finickiness and difference--consciousness of kids, and keep them healthy until they're old enough to do it for themselves. A definite challenge!
Here are a few suggestions if I may. Begin eating organic food before pregnancy if possible. Take particular care to feed your child organic baby food and if you use it, formula . The longer you are able to keep your child on non-GMO organic food, the better chance they have to develop healthy bodies and immune systems. Live in as non-polluted an area as possible. Nothing is perfect, but what we're striving for here is to get the best environment possible, internally and externally. Use pharmaceuticals very sparingly with your children, if at all. Learn methods of alternative healing before you need them, or have a list of resources available.
If you have wifi in your home, and most of us do, make sure your devices are protected. There are several companies that make. I feel the best is GIA Wellness who makes protective chips or guards for cell phones, computers, wifi routers, cordless phones, etc. They have a special technology that disables the interruption these devices have on our bodies. Even with protection, I recommend putting phones on speaker and holding them away from the head. I also recommend not wearing cell phones on the body. Developing breasts are very sensitive to electromagnetic radiation so don't let your teens tuck them in their bras, and likewise don't let boys keep them in their pants pockets. Studies are available showing the harmful effects of EMFs on the body, especially the bodies of children and teens.
Kids spend long hours every week at school, and many of these same issues exist in schools also. If you feel too overwhelmed to investigate the state of your child's school, team up with other concerned parents and each do a little. Most schools these days have school-wide wifi which adversely affects kids in many ways, including headaches, difficulty focusing, and anxiety. Some schools also have cell phone towers in or very near the school grounds. In addition schools also spray for insects using toxic pesticides, install new carpets or flooring using toxic chemicals, and school lunches can include GMOs and pesticide laden foods. Children may be more or less sensitive to these things, but continued exposure increases the sensitivity level. Many schools are becoming more aware of these things but if your child's school is not, do whatever you can to raise awareness. And as I said earlier, getting together with a group of like-minded parents can do wonders.
These are challenging times that require increased awareness, and it can be done. The benefit is children that are healthier than the average, who can pass the torch to the next generation.
I would love to hear what challenges you experience in this area, what solutions you have found, and your thoughts in general on this topic.
Many blessings.
